Bill Murray supports a poetry organization in New York City, and that group sponsored a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, in honor of Walt Whitman (who was a Brooklynite). I was one of about thirty people who joined Bill Murray on the trek from Manhattan to the Brooklyn side. At the half-way point, we stopped and there were readings from Whitman's LEAVES OF GRASS. When we got to the Brooklyn side, we all had champagne and either caviar or sushi (I've forgotten which, but I well remember the champagne). At that point, he sat on the pavement, about a yard from where I was sitting. He was friendly to everyone, but also rather quiet and soft spoken. He was very relaxed and frequently smiled ... a nice gentleman..
