Everyone knows Shatner is a self-absorbed dickhead. Never give him any attention, you'll be glad you didn't.

Yup, the stories are legion. It should tell you something that so many of his former co-stars hate his guts....

Shatner's been known to be like this for decades now. Thankfully we can now forget about him since he's faded away into obscurity.

True that. I had forgotten all about Shatner until I came across this thread. :P

Shatner won't give you an autograph unless you pay him for it. It's his schtick. If you want an autograph from Shatner, you better have a $50 bill in your hand.

At Boston Comic Con it was $75 for autograph and $75 for photo.

In 2014 he was a guest at this local Scifi con called Shoreleave that I go to. Now a weekend pass for the con is $90 and covers pretty much all con things including seeing the guests speak and an autograph. Both Shatner and Richard Dean Andersen charged an additional $80 just for them.

I work in Audiology and have read up on Shatner. He has severe tinnitus (ringing in the ears) from a loud speaker explosion on set. I am almost certain that he struggles hearing in public if other sound is present. So, don't be totally offended.

Still, that doesn't excuse the way he horribly treats others. We need to stop throwing out excuses for some of these celebrities, let them have their consequences of their actions and they'll learn their lesson. If we keep throwing out excuses for them celebrities who treat others like dirt, than they'll never learn their lesson. The least he should do is apologize that he couldn't hear them because of it.

All of these stories are the same. "I walked up to them while they were out with friends and asked them to stop what they were doing and pay attention to me and sign the billionth autograph they've probably signed today and for some reason they were a total asshole". Stop bothering celebrities while they're out hanging with friends and trying to live a normal life.

I agree with this ^. Recently a good friend of mine met Breckin Meyer (ROAD TRIP, CLUELESS) at Pearson airport in Toronto. He wasn't sure how to approach him or if he should at all. I told him just say "Excuse me, hi! If you don't want to be bothered it's ok, but I'm a fan and would love a pic with you on my cell phone. He was cool and allowed it.It's all in the delivery and how you ask. If celebrities don't wish to be bothered, don't. Leave them alone.

There's some truth to that.

I usually just wave and say hi, or offer my hand a compliment, depending on the situation (usually after concerts or a show of some kind). If they seem less than cordial, I don't push the issue and just thank them.

If they treat people like dirt when we only said hello to them and told them we loved their performance and hope they have a good day, than thanking them after they insult people is wasted on them. I'd say they'd have to earn the thanks but that would be ridiculous.
